KAROOBAIX
The name KAROOBAIX (pronounced ka-roo-bay) pays homage the Paris-Roubaix race, the murderous European Classic that earned itself the nickname Hell of the North, and our unique, spectacular and sometimes inhospitable semi-desert region of the Karoo.
While the race will be a two-day event, racers will be shuttled to Calvinia on the edge of the Northern Cape on Sunday 8 October, and treated to a hearty Hantam dinner in the evening. The race officially sets off from Calvinia on Monday morning, following the gravel routes to Middelpos, and then down into the Tankwa Karoo before climbing up and out to Sutherland. We spend the night in Sutherland, enjoying their stellar hospitality. The next morning after breakfast the race heads south into the Moordenaars Karoo, and passes Laingsburg before ending in historic Matjiesfontein. We spend Tuesday night in the beautiful old Lord Milner Hotel celebrating our victory in true Karoo style. On Wednesday morning, after a traditional breakfast, a shutttle will return everyone to Cape Town.
