Stellenbosch (Western Cape) – By taking part in the 2017 BUCO Origin Of Trails Two-Day MTB Stage Race on Saturday, 25 November 2017 and Sunday, 26 November 2017, riders will make a difference in the lives of the children of the Aitsa After Care Centre.

“The Aitsa After Care Centre opened its doors in January 2014,” says Marietjie Steyn, Aitsa After Care Centre Founder and Manager.  “The Centre strives to expose children to fun activities and programs in an alternative home environment where they feel loved and special.  We currently have 145 children between the ages of 5 and 9.  All the children reside in the Dwarsriver Valley, Kylemore in the Banhoek Valley and surrounding farms.  We offer meals, sport, chess, choir, drama, e-learning, mathematics, reading programs, homework assistance, counselling, parent support groups and life skills training to name just a few.”

“It is a privilege to be part of the BUCO Origin Of Trails,” says Steyn.  “We believe that mountain biking positively influences children.  The children are granted the opportunity to be:  active, outdoors in nature and have fun.  The BUCO Origin of Trails ticks all these boxes.  We’ve started a MTB initiative where riders can give back by joining our children on weekly pump-track training sessions.  Through this the children are also exposed to the sport of mountain biking.  In 2016 our children loved being at the water points where they supported riders by either singing or handing them treats.  This year will be no different.  The children will also take part in a BUCO Origin of Trails art competition, where their art will be used as placemats at the event.”

Riders wanting to support the Aitsa After Care Centre can do so by either donating their second hand bicycles, kids cycling clothes, gloves and gear or by donating their time on the trails with the children.  The donations can be left in the Aitsa After Care Centre bin at registration.
