Mountain bikers taking part in the 5th annual Fedhealth MTB Challenge, at Boschendal Farm Estate (The Retreat) on Saturday 07 and Sunday 08 September 2019 can support the Aitsa! Aftercare Centre when entering online.

A proud beneficiary of the Fedhealth MTB Challenge, the Aitsa! Aftercare Centre opened its doors in 2014 in the picturesque village of Kylemore.

According to Marietjie Steyn, Founder Director of Aitsa! Aftercare Centre, most of the families in Kylemore are living in challenging circumstances with parents working long hours, struggling under the burden of poverty.  “Children are often left unattended, hungry and neglected, roaming the streets,” says Steyn.  “The Aitsa! Aftercare Centre’s doors are open every afternoon, providing a safe place where children receive a cooked meal and fruit daily.  It is also a place where the children’s full potential can be developed.  Through holistic programs Aitsa! provides a stimulating, nurturing and loving environment.  Currently we serve 200 children between the ages of 5 and 11 years.  We also have 16 full time staff members who reside mostly in the village of Kylemore.”

“It’s a privilege to be associated with such a big event that is hosted at such a beautiful venue,” continues Steyn.  “Not only does the Centre get widespread exposure, but our children are given the opportunity to participate in an event that is hosted in the valley where they live.  Experiencing the exhilaration and beauty of mountain biking in such a well organised event is a fun experience for the children.  It also motivates them to continue riding, ultimately keeping them off of the streets.  The Aitsa! Aftercare Centre will have a ‘donate to Aitsa!’ option when riders enter online.   The funds will be used to purchase outfits for the children that belong to our Cycling Initiative.  We will also run a ‘container drive’ in the race village where riders can donate towards a container for our Cycling Initiative.  Fedhealth has also secured 15 entries for our children to ride the kid’s race.  To show our appreciation, Aitsa! will include a small gift in the race packs of all entrants.  We hope that they like it. Our children cannot wait to be part of the 2019 event experience.”
