Team Spur's two-time Swiss Mountain Bike Marathon Champion Ariane Lüthi will be seen leading out the elite race at the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN on Sunday, 24 September 2017.

“I am proud to wear Spur on my chest all year round,” says Lüthi.  “The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN is ideal for all runners, whether fast or slow.  It’s an amazing event for people to come together.  The route goes through the heart of Joburg.  This is really special.  I am excited to be leading out the elite field, on my bicycle of course.  I really admire the athletes that run like gazelles.  It will be a hard 10km even for me.   I am excited to be part of this mass road running event and look forward to delving into a sporting world other than that of mountain biking.”

Spur expanded its footprint in the road running arena by teaming up with both the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN (Sunday, 24 September 2017) and the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN (Sunday, 08 October 2017), the sister events of the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN.

“We are proud to host three mass participation road running events in the heart of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.  “Each event highlights the beauty of its host city while incorporating iconic landmarks on route.  The 3rd annual FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN attracted a record field earlier this year.  After taking in the scenic beauty of the Mother City and enjoying energetic on route entertainment, runners were welcomed home by mouth-watering aromas thanks to Spur.  We are excited to extend our partnership by welcoming Spur to both the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN (now in its 2nd year) and the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN (the inaugural event).  Runners and spectators will definitely not be going home hungry.”

According to Clare Rainey, Spur Brand Development Manager, Spur strives to build on the already active lifestyles enjoyed by all South Africans.  “We are proud to support proudly South African events.  We had an amazing time at the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN  earlier this year and are excited to expand our partnership by teaming up with the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN and the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN.   Spur will take over the last kilometre at both events.  Runners can look forward to a ‘mouth-watering’ welcome home.”

About the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN sponsorship:

FNB Business is proud to be the title sponsor of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN.  This sponsorship forms part of our ongoing strategy to support local and community events that focus on a healthy lifestyle and family involvement. Road running is an inclusive sport that allows us to engage with a larger audience and support a sporting disciplines that advance our commitment to building, enduring and rewarding relationships with communities we are a part of. We believe in supporting a race that encourages people to run and know their city; a race that strives to re-invent how people perceive and experience the city centre. The FNB Bank City buildings are well-known and iconic buildings in the Johannesburg CBD and the precinct was recently revamped in 2015 with three lifestyle concepts of Work, Eat & Play in mind. For many years it has been viewed as traditional banking headquarters; however the revamp has positively changed the experience of the precinct. Sponsoring the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN is aligned to our belief in the importance of rejuvenating and reviving the city centre so it remains relevant and an important part of Johannesburg’s Heritage.
