Olympian sets sights on XTERRA gold

One year after his Olympic Campaign, Richard Murray’s search for change has once again led him to the Fedhealth XTERRA Grabouw which is both the largest XTERRA in the world and the South African Championship.

Boasting a jam-packed programme for the entire family the weekend of 24 – 26 February 2017, Murray will take on the Fedhealth XTERRA SA Championship on Saturday, 25 February 2017.

“I am looking for some change this season,” says Murray. “I chose the Fedhealth XTERRA Grabouw because it is the largest XTERRA in the world, it’s only a 1 hour drive from my home and the ambiance is great. I enjoy the mountain bike discipline the most. The rock garden is quite a challenge. I look forward to prepping my bike for this event. I love the run. It has everything one could expect from a good course including trails, hills and even a water crossing. I will race in Abu Dhabi the weekend after XTERRA Grabouw. So my goal for XTERRA SA will be to race within myself. I would love both a podium finish and to qualify for the World Championship.”

“I definitely underestimated the XTERRA World Championship in 2013,” continues Murray. “I placed 12th overall on the day. This year I want to win. I’d love to be the XTERRA Champion in 2017.”
